Financial Aid The Office of Admissions includes information about costs at Indiana University and IU financial aid options.
The Office for Student Financial Assistance offers a wealth of information on financial aid at IU, including grants, scholarships, work study, and the FAFSA.
The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) and the Project on Student Debt have developed the Student Loan Borrower Assistance Project that can help loan saddled social workers and other borrowers to find out more information about the recently passed College Cost Reduction and Access Act, among other student loan related issues.
In addition, the School of Social Work has a limited number of scholarships for which students may apply after they have been admitted to the program. Application materials are available each spring from the School's Bloomington office. Specific scholarships for which Bloomington BSW students are eligible include:
AGNES ANDERSON MEMORIAL FUND
A fund established in 1956 in memorial to Agnes Anderson of the Department of Social Services awarding a current student for their distinguished academic achievements.
REQUIREMENT: A two-page narrative describing your academic achievements.
THE SHELDON AND NATALIE SIEGEL SCHOLARSHIP
A fund established honoring Natalie and Sheldon Siegel that is to be awarded to a student working in or demonstrating a commitment to the field of community organization and development.
REQUIREMENT:A two-page narrative describing your work or commitment to community organizing and development.
MONDONNA PANG ENDOWMENT
A fund established in memory of Ms. Pang that is to be awarded to students interested in working in the mental health field, particularly with persons affected by schizophrenia and other related disorders.
REQUIREMENT:A two-page narrative describing your work with and commitment to the area of mental health, particularly persons affected by schizophrenia or other related disorders.
MINNIE AND MARY RIGG FELLOWSHIP
A fund established in honor of Minnie and Mary Rigg that awards a student who has demonstrated a commitment to working in a settlement house (or similar agency).
REQUIREMENT: A two-page narrative describing your commitment to working with persons in a settlement house (or similar agency). This narrative can address volunteer, paid or practicum experiences.
THE THEODORA ALLEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
A fund established in memory of Dr. Theodora Allen, a former professor at the Bloomington campus. Preference is given to BSW students at the Bloomington campus who want to provide direct service to low income or vulnerable populations.
REQUIREMENT: A two-page paper describing your interest in social work practice with low income and vulnerable populations.Include information on pressing financial need along with your cumulative G.P.A.
THE GENEVIEVE MEANS McLEOD SCHOLARSHIP
A fund established in memory of Genevieve Means McLeod that is to be awarded to a female student achieving academic excellence (a GPA of 3.0) and a demonstrated financial need.
REQUIREMENT: A two-page narrative describing your academic achievements.Also, discuss any pressing financial need.Please indicate if you have submitted a FAFSA form. |
